Figs, have the soft and aromatic taste with grainy seeds inside, bursting a rush of sweetness inside your mouth.

I have a fondness for walking around Covent Garden (when there is not many people), stepping on her cobblestone road and listening to her whisper telling the 400-year history of Covent Garden. It was the most impressive place to me when I first came to London in 2012, the hurly-burly, the historic and artistic atmosphere, the diverse and colorful shops and restaurants, bombarding me and leaving me with the memorable sensation.
However, I enjoyed the relatively quite Covent Garden in the morning the most. Without the hustle, you can carefully behold her grandness, her brilliance and her humble glory.
The October in UK welcomes the abundant harvest of figs, bringing people the delightful sweetness to their palates. Rich in fibers and minerals, figs are nature's sugar bombs. Being versatile and well-rounded, people love using it in a variety of dishes which also adds the appetizing and appealing color.
When I surprising found the picture of the Fig Toast made by Abuelo in Covent Garden, I was immediately determined to try it.

When Aussie meets South-American, when the cosiness meets the bustle of the city, Abuelo brings people homely and farm-to-table food by souring organic and fresh ingredients. It seems to me that this place is an oasis in the concrete forests, brimming with tranquil and peace. "Abuelo" means 'Father' in Spanish, and the word ' Father' aroused my overwhelming nostalgia. It is indeed a place that brings you the feeling of the home and the feeling of belonging.

Undoubtedly, I ordered their "Honey whipped mascarpone on sourdough, fresh figs & crushed pistachios" and a slice of their Fig & Chai Cake of the day. A FEAST OF FIGS! The plate featured a crispy and crusty slice of toasted sourdough in the centre, with creamy mascarpone cheese and generous amount of sliced figs on top of it, drizzling with golden honey and sprinkling crunchy crushed pistachios. The figs, have the soft and aromatic taste with grainy seeds inside, bursting a rush of sweetness inside your mouth. The delicate texture of figs perfectly balanced the crunchiness of the toast (I would say my bread was slightly over-toasted), while the honey highlighted the richness and smoothness of mascarpone cheese. The careful use of ingredients deliberately balanced different textures, hitting the sweet spot of flavors.

Ok, so eating your breakfast like a king, then why not indulge yourself with a slice of their adorable Chai & Fig Cake. The texture was very similar to Carrot Cake, dense, rich and sweet, while the frosting brought the highlight of Chai spices. Abuelo knew the favor of the autumn so much that they also wittingly added fig to their cake. It would be better to me if the cake can be slightly less sweet, but the fusion of Chai spices still impressed me.
If you also enjoy the peaceful morning of Covent Garden, then remember to enjoy a hearty breakfast at Abuelo. Take a sip of their specialty coffee, have a mouthful of their delicous food and slouch on their comforting sofa, it is time to make yourself calm, relaxed and mindful.
