It is the first vegan pizzeria in the UK, challenging the traditions and using the most sustainable ingredients. Eat for the planet !

SEASON.4.PIZZA.1 from Purezza, very very generous portion

What's your thought on vegan? The new magic bullet for weight loss? Binging on salad like a rabbit? Or these folks are just enthusiastic animal lovers? According to the statistics from British Vegan Society, the number of vegans in UK has quadrupled astonishingly in the last 4 years. It is undoubtedly one of the most well-received diet patterns while arousing lots of heated controversy. The main benefit for people to adopt a vegan diet is having the abundance of vegetables, pulses, fruits, nuts and seeds in each meal, which confer people with significantly lower risk of hypertension, obesity, and type 2 diabetes (Lap Tai Le, 2014).

In addition to its health benefits on metabolic disorders and chronic disease, veganism also highlights the importance of animal rights, environment and food sustainability. It is astonishing to find that farming livestock can accounts for almost a fifth of greenhouse gas emissions. And it also requires enormous amount of water for feeding animals as it takes more than 10,000 liters of water to produce only a pound of beef (watch out, steak lovers!).

Definitely, I am not here to preach you give up dairy, seafood or meat. Humans need moderate amount of animal-based nutrients as we are designed to be omnivores evolutionarily. However, it is never a bad idea to go for a "Meat-free Monday" or like what Brits did, going vegan in "Veganuary"!

Trust me, going vegan is absolutely not a punish task for you foodies in London. You can definitely have the pleasure to enjoy your vegan doughnuts, your vegan Mac n' Cheese and your vegan pizza! Purezza is the first vegan pizzeria in the UK, they use plant-based ingredients while keeping the traditional methods for making pizza, bringing you their passion and advocacy for veganism. Their branch is London is in the lively Camden Town which just locates beside the Gail's.

I went there with my 2 flatmates, so 3 non-vegans decided to have a try this seemingly humble restaurant. My flatmates ordered the "Telling Porkies" and "Parmigiana Party"(cool names, aren't they?), and I ordered the SEASON.4.PIZZA.1 which has artichokes, beetroots, mushroom, olives and vegan mozzarella ?!

Their dough is freshly made each day and matured for forty eight hours before being stretched and served. You can witness the whole making process while waiting which further enhance my anticipation. Freshly cooked and steamingly hot, these pizzas are epic for our Chinese stomachs. If you have the chance to visit the Pizza Hut in China , you will not be surprised to find that the size served in Purezza is served as family-sized in Chinese restaurant. But the smell was so good and so appealing that we all felt like our stomachs are growing another inch.

The first bite was absolutely mind-blowing. The base was rich in flavourful and juicy tomatoes, and the rice-based mozzarella tasted surprisingly cheesy and creamy. The beetroots, mushrooms and artichokes were all soaked perfectly in the tomato juice and baked to be tender and palatable. The crust was chewy while slightly crunchy, and you can even tasted the trace of the laborious and careful kneading and stretching. Every mouthful of pizza brought me a exhilarated sensation of the amazing taste, the taste of plant-based foods, the taste that is free of cruelty and free of torture.

We were all blown away by the mouth-watering vegan pizzas as three of us kept making acclaims on how delicious these were. I was stuffed by the pizza, but also stuffed by Purezza's warming hospitality, their passion for health pizzas and their hard work for bringing people the scrummy and finger-lickering foods. Call your friends and bring you family, enjoy a hearty and filling vegan meal at Purezza, the award-winning plant-based pizzeria in the UK.
